Writing Camp is designed to help students improve their reading skills, expand their vocabulary and practice different types of essay writing. Let’s find out more!

Course Curriculum

Writing Camp follows a curated writing curriculum, which includes:

  1. Warmup Exercise
  2. Reading and Analysis of Articles
  3. Independent Writing Practice
  4. Peer Feedback

Each lesson includes a warmup exercise that helps students understand different uses of writing, and how they writing changes to match the purpose of the writing. After finishing the warm-up exercise, students read through an article directly related to the essay topic in turns with the tutor. The articles are chosen to give new context to the sometimes simplistic essay statements, and to widen student’s perspectives. New and important vocabulary are bolded throughout the document, to open up conversations, and to encourage the use of new words in writing.

Then, students choose between two thesis statements to find a topic for their essay, which can be either argumentative or opinion-based, allowing them to build confidence by choosing their essay’s direction. Students spend around fifteen minutes writing their essays independently, and then share their writing with the teacher to receive feedback about each other’s work. The students will receive targeted feedback on their essays, including about spelling, grammar, organization, and transition words.

Students will discuss and debate the articles with their tutor, and develop with persuasive arguments for their essays.
