Introducing our Library

At our office we have a fantastic selection of award-winning books suitable for all ages. The books we use include Swimmy by Leo Lionni, The Tiger Who Came to Tea by Judith Kerr, The Highway Rat by the creators of The Gruffalo, and other classic and beloved stories, many of which are Newbery and Caldecott Medal Winners.

A majority of our books target elementary level students. We have selected board books with fewer sentences and also simple picture books for lower levels. As student’s reading level increases, they have access to longer picture books. Finally, we have also chapter books available for those that are passionate about reading and want to improve their skills with a more challenging read. During the lesson, students either read books aloud by themselves, or in turn with the teacher.

As our office space is limited, we cannot have a physical copy of every book. This has motivated us to build and expand an online library. Our tutors have access to the online library for preparing the lessons and sharing materials with their students. If you’re curious about certain books, ask your tutor if we have a copy available in our library!

Some of our Favorite Books…

Our Tutor Lea’s favorite pick:

The Snail and the Whale is a loving book about a whale and snail’s journey together. I personally love using this book in classes because the storyline incorporates so many elements: animals in the ocean, different regions in the world – think islands, the arctic, and forests – to a seaside town with humans. With beautiful illustrations, the message from the storyline is clear: humans must work together to save animals when they are in need.

Our Tutor Carl-Isaak’s favorite pick:

The Hospital Dog is a heartwarming book set in rhyme, that tells the story of a therapy dog who visits a local hospital. Dot the Dalmatian helps the patients, families, and doctors in Wallaby ward, and when Dot gets injured, all the children come to help her feel better as well. The book’s engaging pictures, flowing rhyme, and representative characters will entertain and educate students of all ages.

New arrival to the Tutor Japan Library:

Our newest addition to our collection of picture books is Giraffes Can’t Dance by Giles Andreae and Guy Parker-Rees. This rhyming story follows the clumsy Giraffe, Gerald, who struggles in a jungle community full of talented dancing animals. Instead of worrying what others think, Gerald learns to find his own music, and to dance to his own beat. This story encourages children to accept themselves as they are, and to express themselves.
